1 February 2011: U.S. Embassy Statement on US-Canada Border Report

OTTAWA: The United States government has already reviewed and is addressing recommendations made by the U.S. Government Accountability Office in the December, 2010 report, "Border Security: Enhanced DHS Oversight and Assessment of Interagency Coordination Is Needed for the Northern Border."

Here is a statement from U.S. Ambassador David Jacobson:

"Cooperation between the United States and Canada on matters of security and border management has been exceptional for years and that continues to be true.

"We can always improve processes and procedures and in fact, my government has already taken steps to address some of the recommendations in the GAO report.

"One thing I'd like to clarify, the Obama Administration is not contemplating the possibility of requiring visas for Canadians to visit the United States."
