Principal's Message

Brenda Gilchrist Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is a pleasure to introduce myself to the Diamond Elementary School Community. I am the mother of one daughter and one son who reside in Rhode Island and North Carolina respectively. I matriculated at Benedict College, Columbia, South Carolina as an undergraduate student and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science. I received two masters’ degrees from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical School in reading, supervision and administration located in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Further studies have been completed at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and
Converse College. I consider myself a perennial student who enjoys learning.

I have been a classroom teacher at both the elementary and secondary levels. Also, I have held administrative positions at the district and school levels. I believe that I have accomplished most as a classroom teacher and principal. The students that I have taught have always grown beyond their potential determined by state assessments and local benchmarks.

I have been an elementary principal for six years. During those six years, my schools have met and exceeded state performance standards including receiving silver awards for student growth and closing the achievement gap.

The following quotes will help anyone understand my thought processes as it relates to the passion that I have for teaching and learning as well as my leadership skills –

“I am personally convinced that one person can be a change catalyst, a “transformer” in any
situation, any organization. Such an individual is yeast that can leaven an entire loaf. It requires
vision, initiative, patience, respect, persistence, courage, and faith to be a transforming leader.”
Stephen R. Covey

“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other” – John Kennedy.

The Diamond Elementary School Family is composed of a large student and staff population that will afford us many challenges and opportunities. We are enthusiastic as we look forward to a prosperous and most rewarding remainder of the 2010-2011 school year.

It is a joy for me to have the opportunity to serve the military population of students and communities here in the South Carolina/Fort Stewart/Cuba-DoDDS-Cuba District.
