Need To Know - Jobs

Nov 10, 2011 Issues: Economy & Jobs

Dear Friend,

Yesterday I was honored to speak with local elected officials, business leaders and economic developers from Mississippi and Alabama at a summit hosted by the Montgomery Institute.

This event was held at Mississippi State University’s Riley Center in Meridian, Miss., and focused on advancing economic development projects in the West Alabama – East Mississippi (WAEM) Region.

Governor Haley Barbour recently announced that Mississippi was named one of the top places in the country to do business by Area Development magazine, a publication used by development site selectors. Mississippi has done a phenomenal job of attracting new business to our state over the last several years with the addition of companies like ScottsMirracle-Gro in Pearl, Enersteel in Natchez, Handy Hardware in Meridian and SemiSouth in Starkville to name a few.

I’m excited about our state’s economic future and I look forward to the job growth that these projects will bring to communities across the Magnolia State.
