    America Days in Tartu

    The U.S. Embassy and the City of Tartu celebrated "America Days in Tartu" on November 18-19. The first-ever wide-scale event of its kind, America Days brought a team of 29 Americans and Estonians together to help share information about American culture, history and society.

    During November 21-23 PAS Tallinn is hosting a group of students and educators from Santa Fe Indian School for a poetry reading room. Public performances and schools visits will take place in Tallinn and Tartu.

    U.S. Embassy staff joined a large group of volunteers at Tondiloo Park in Lasnamäe on October 25th to help plant 300 new trees in the park and neighborhood area as part of the "Greening Lasnamäe" project.

    Two U.S. Air Force F-15 fighter jets arrived to Tallinn on September 14, as part of a broader NATO exercise. The fourth in a series of exercises held under the Baltic Region Training Event, BRTE-IV is scheduled to take place September 14-15 at Tallinn International Airport.

    U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Dr. Philip Gordon visited Tallinn on August 13. In the course of his visit, Dr. Gordon met with Foreign Minister Urmas Paet and discussed a wide range of bilateral and regional issues and participated together with Foreign Minister Paet in a joint press conference.

    The U.S. Embassy in Tallinn supported the Soap Box Derby in Narva for the third year in a row. The current running of this quintessentially American sport brought a record-number 24 entries from across Estonia, including one entry from the U.S. Embassy

    Regional paper Hiiu Leht reported on the opening of the new surgery wing of the Hiiumaa hospital and noted that in the framework of the U.S. Humanitarian Assistance program, the U.S. Embassy supported the renovation with 3.2 million EEK.

    From May 10-15, the FBI, together with the Estonian Ministry of Justice and the Estonian Forensic Institute, held a high-level cyber crime conference in Tallinn for Eurasian participants.

    On May 1, Chargé d' Affaires Karen Decker opened the Traditional American Car Season in Tallinn. A record-high number of participants gathered in the heart of Tallinn to showcase their U.S.-produced and manufactured classic cars.

    On April 30, an 18-member team from the U.S. Embassy, headed by Chargé d' Affaires Karen Decker, joined a team comprised of members from the weekly rural newspaper "Maaleht," as well as from the Estonian State-owned forestry company "RMK," to plant trees in an Estonian state-owned forest.

    Two U.S. Air Force F-15 C fighters were displayed in Estonia on 4/24. The U.S. Embassy organized several tours for VIPs, press, military personnel, the embassy community, and at-risk youth from a local social center.

    U.S. beatboxer Napoleon Maddox helped Estonian youth celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month by learning more about beatboxing. The Estonian Jazz Union hosted Maddox with help from Embassy Tallinn.

    Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip welcomed the US Congressional Delegation that is on an introductory visit to Estonia, with whom, in addition to financial and economic issues, topics related to security and the relations between the two countries were discussed.

    March 1-3, 2009 On March 1 and 3, the U.S. Army Europe Band's jazz ensemble "The Soldiers of Swing" concluded its Baltic tour with concerts in Estonia.

    On February 27, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Karen Decker opening the 4th American Classic Films Festival. The festival is organized by the U.S. Government Programs Alumni Organization in Estonia.

    Exhibition of Portraits by Irena Baruch Wiley

    From February 5-26, the U.S. Embassy celebrated the 91st birthday of the Republic of Estonia with an exhibition of portraits by Polish-American artist Irena Baruch Wiley who was the spouse of John Cooper Wiley - a U.S. diplomat in Estonia in 1938-40.
