MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT SAN DIEGO --

Week four of the Commanding General’s Cup Soccer season kicked off Tuesday with the Coast Guard facing the Consolidated Personnel Administration Center in a six-on-six game.

“The season is going well. We started out with eight teams and have only dropped two,” said Rachel Dickinson, the CG’s Cup Sports coordinator. “Both the Coast Guard and CPAC are among our highest caliber teams.”

At the beginning of the first half, the Coast Guard showed a tremendous defensive effort as CPAC aggressively attacked their goal. Eventually, CPAC’s Sgt. Alfredo Hernandez broke through the Coast Guard’s weakened defense to score the first goal of the game.

Before half-time, CPAC managed to gain two more points while the Coast Guard team remained scoreless.

At the start of the second half, Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Matthew Sayers put his team on the board by scoring their first and only goal of the game.

Replicating last week’s victory against the Recruit Administrative Branch, CPAC crushed their opponents, 6-1.

“Winning the game definitely boosts morale within the battalion,” said Staff Sgt. Victor Hernandez, team captain. “Due to our hectic schedules, we are able to practice only once a week, but our players take the games personally. I predict we will continue to do well this season.

Following the Coast Guard’s loss, Support Battalion challenged RAB and won when RAB forfeited.

Currently, Support Bn. and CPAC are tied for first place, the Coast Guard, and 12th Marine Corps District are tied for second. Dental is in third place and RAB is in fourth.

Playoffs are scheduled to begin on Sept. 11. Season scores and rankings are available and updated weekly at www.mccsmcrd.com.
