Nuclear Non-Proliferation

The primary job of the federal government is to keep its citizens safe. While Senator Franken understands the importance of the United States maintaining a nuclear arsenal to deter attacks, he is committed to the overall reduction of nuclear arms. Senator Franken supports President Obama and Vice President Biden’s plan to reduce the global threat from nuclear weapons. He is committed to protecting our safe, secure, and effective nuclear deterrent while working with other nations towards reduction and eventual elimination of nuclear weapons. Senator Franken was an active participant in the Senate's successful effort to ratify the New START treaty with Russia, which will reduce the number of nuclear weapons and maintain strong insight into Russian forces.
