Civil Rights
Martin Luther King, Jr. challenged each of us never to stay neutral in the face of injustice. Dr. King said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'" One of the many things that make me proud to represent Minnesota is that ours is a community that has long been able to answer: "a lot!"
As early as 1948, Hubert Humphrey pushed for anti-lynching laws, school desegregation, and anti-discrimination. In 1964, then-Senator Humphrey was critical in passing the Civil Rights Act. Many Minnesotans have followed in his footsteps, and as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, I intend to do just that.
