Warrant Officer Packet Preparation

Before you start putting a packet together, please check the following:
• Age 18-46, waivers are authorized
• Must be a US citizen by birth or naturalization
• GT Score 110 or higher; if not 110 retest
• HS graduate or GED
• Security clearance, at least interim secret
• Physical 2807, dated within 2 years of federal recognition

If the Soldier doesn’t meet the above requirements you can still start the packet building process. Follow the below checklists to see what Items are required for each step of the process.

There are four steps required in order to become a fully qualified warrant officer: predetermination, federal recognition, attending WOCS and attending BOLC.

1.STEP ONE – Predetermination is the most important step on the road to becoming a warrant officer. Before you start the predetermination process make sure the Soldier meets the minimum prerequisites for the MOS they are applying for at www.usarec.army.mil/hq/warrant or www.1800goguard.com. Follow the WOC checklist to complete predetermination.

 A. WO predetermination checklist attachments:

 WOC checklist – Print this checklist off and use it as a working document.
 Command chief warrant officer recommendation- This letter must be done by the state command chief warrant officer. This letter will act not only as a recommendation but will request approval for prerequisite waivers. (i.e. rank, MOS, BNCOC, NCOERs or lack of documented experience.) The current state command chief warrant officer is CW5 David Jundt (701-333-3025). Predetermination packets can be sent to CW2 Jade Falcon (701-328-9635) without this letter.
 Unit commander’s recommendation – This letter should be written by the company commander with help from the Soldier. Make sure that the following statement is annotated on the second to last paragraph. The below information should reflect the DA 705 that is attached with the packet.
"I certify that SFC John Doe successfully passed the Army Physical Fitness Test consisting of push- ups, sit-ups, and the two mile run with a score of 248 on 19 May 2007; the verified height is 5'6' and the verified weight is 162 lbs."
 Battalion commander’s recommendation – This letter must be written by the battalion commander. The battalion OIC can also write this letter.
 Brigade commander’s recommendation – This letter must be written by the brigade or troop command commander.
 Certified copy of DA form 2-1
 WOC Resume – Soldiers resume must be in this format. Make sure that the Soldier has documentation(NCOERs, OERs or proper civilian documentation) verifying the Soldiers resume. This is where the Soldier needs to sell them self to Proponent.
    College transcripts
    OERs/NCOERs
 Documents listed on the WO home page
    Civilian employment documents
    Awards and decorations
    DA Form 705
 Recommendation from CW3-CW5 who holds the MOS – This is a very important letter! This senior warrant officers letter will make you or break you at Proponent. I recommend that you send the resume, NCOER's and unit commander letter of recommendation to the senior warrant officer that holds the MOS and ask for an interview.
    Security clearance verification statement

 B. Upon completion of the Soldiers complete predetermination packet, packets can be sent to CW2 Jade Falcon (701-328-9635) at jade.james.falcon@us.army.mil or by mail to the Bismarck Storefront Recruiting Office at 2930 North 14th Street, Suite 4, Bismarck, ND, 58503.

2.STEP TWO – Federal recognition is where the Soldier goes to a mandatory board and is appointed a warrant officer candidate. Federal recognition boards usually take place the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

 A. Secure a unit vacancy. Current warrant officer vacancies can be found on the NDKO Website under Army Comp Cmd, JFND-RRZ-Recruiting & Retention, Warrant Officer Vacancy Report or by calling CW2 Jade Falcon at 701-328-9635. After a vacancy has been secured, write the PARA/LINE and unit information on the front of the Soldiers packet folder and email the PARA/LINE and Unit info to jade.james.falcon@us.army.mil.

 B. Federal recognition packets must accompany the Soldier to the board. It is the responsibility of the warrant officer/officer recruiter to complete the federal recognition checklist.

 C. Federal recognition checklist:

   • NGB Form 62 signed up to second endorsement. Make sure this form is filled out correctly. If there is a “yes” in block 16, the Soldier will need a civil conviction waiver.  CW2 Jade Falcon (701-328-9635) will handle all civil conviction waivers.
   • Civilian education (certified copy of HS diploma)
   • Chapter 2 Physical (2808 & 2807-1) dated within 2 years
   • Certified copy of SSN card
   • Certified copy of birth certificate
   • Security clearance verification memo
   • DA 5500 (if applicable)
   • DA 705 (6 months AGR, 12 months M-day)
   • Any authorized waivers
   • Warrant officer predetermination memo (memo will be sent from Proponent after Soldier has been predetermined)
   • Military award citations
   • DD Form 214
   • Documented GT Score 110 or higher

3.STEP THREE – Warrant Officer Candidate School (WOCS) is required in order to be appointed to a WO1 unless the Soldier has completed an OCS, ROTC or other Military Service Academy (WestPoint).

A.There are two different ways complete WOCS

 • Fort Rucker WOCS

  - 4 weeks  for E-5 and above with WLC

  - 6 weeks for E-5 and below without WLC

 • RTI at Camp Ripley, MN

  - 5 ADT periods at Camp Ripley, Minnesota (Feb-June)

  - 2 weeks at Camp Atterbury, Indiana (July or Sep)

4.STEP FOUR – Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC) is officer AIT. The length of BOLC is different for every branch. Full-time unit members should coordinate with SGM Donald Kasper (701-333-3002) for available school dates and training seats. Proponent might award constructive credit for BOLC for certain individuals with exemplary experience.
