Level 1 certification should be conducted at the Battalion or Brigade level by a United States Army Combatives School trained Basic Combatives Instructors Course Battalion Combatives Master Trainer or Tactical Combatives Instructors Course Brigade Combatives Master Trainer. Level 2 certification should be conducted at the Brigade Level by a United States Army Combatives School trained Tactical Combatives Instructors Course Brigade Master Combatives Trainer.

The following list all necessary requirements for enrollment and reporting procedures in both the Basic Combatives Instructors Course and Tactical Combatives Instructors Course courses at the US Army Combatives School (USACS)

Prerequisites:

All candidates must:

  • Be enrolled through ATRRS for these courses
  • Must have all paperwork in hand (see below)
  • Have six months time in service remaining after graduation of course
  • Be in accordance with height and weight standards as outlined in AR 600-9
  • Individuals on profile must contact USACS for approval prior to enrolling in this course.
  • Be of the enlisted rank E-4 thru E-9, officer rank O-1 thru O-5, or warrant officer rank WO1 thru CW5
  • Have successfully completed the necessary prior courses:
    • For Basic Combatives Instructors Course; the Combatives Levels I & II courses
    • For Tactical Combatives Instructors Course; the Combatives Levels I, II & Basic Combatives Instructors Course courses
  • Ft Benning Soldiers will ensure they are not scheduled for any duties or have any appointments during the Basic Combatives Instructors Course or Tactical Combatives Instructors Course courses
  • Members of other military branches are welcome to request this training and can coordinate it through the schoolhouse at 706-545-2811

Paperwork:

The following documents are to be completed by the student for in-processing (hand carry to school house):

Copies of the following forms need to be presented for in-processing:

  • Physical (2808/2807)or PHA printout; from within one year
  • Copies (4) of orders (TDY Soldiers)
  • Copies of prior course graduation certificates:
    • For Basic Combatives Instructors Course; copies of Levels I & II certificates (BOTH; NO EXCEPTIONS)
    • For Tactical Combatives Instructors Course; copies of Levels I, II & Basic Combatives Instructors Course certificates (ALL; NO EXCEPTIONS)
  • Ft Benning Soldiers must present a completed Service School Worksheet

Reporting:

  • TDY Soldiers should arrive to the Ft Benning / Columbus, GA area the day prior to the start of class. All lodging and transportation issues should be taken care of before the class begins.
  • Candidates will be authorized to use the 29th Regimental Mess and will be authorized partial per diem during the week. On the weekends and holidays candidates are authorized full per deim due to the Mess Hall being closed. Units are encouraged but not required to authorize a rental vehicle in order for the candidates to be able to travel to surrounding dining facilities during Mess Hall closures.
  • Candidates will be present at Bldg 933 (Briant Wells Gym) by 0800 on the first day of class. No students will be accepted after 0800. See map link for directions and ensure you have the phone number to the building in case of a problem (706-545-2811)
  • All Basic Combatives Instructors Coursecandidates will take a Level I technique test at the start of the course. Failure to meet the standards of this test will result in denied entry of the course.
  • Students will be required to pass an APFT, scoring no less than 60% in each event.  Failure to pass an APFT will result in denied entry to the class.
  • Soldiers will not miss more than 2 hours on any given week of training. Missing more than the allotted time will result in dismissal from the course
  • ACU’s are the only authorized uniform at USACS. Soldiers are expected to have at least three complete sets of serviceable ACU’s, no less than five sand-colored T-shirts, one complete set seasonal PT uniform, four additional pairs of PT shorts, hand-wraps (180 inch), groin protection and a mouthpiece. Also, wrestling shoes are authorized for portions of these courses
    • Members of other military branches are authorized to wear whatever duty uniform is issued to them
  • Bring the following office supplies: four pens, two pencils, one notepad and a memory stick [thumb-drive] with at least 25MB of available space
  • Bring ID card and ID tags
  • A laptop computer, FM’s 5-19, 7-0, 7-1, 3-25.150 and ARTEPs / MTPs are HIGHLY recommended for all Tactical Combatives Instructors Course students

ANY SOLDIER THAT DOES NOT FULFILL ALL OF THE ABOVE OBLIGATIONS WILL BE RETURNED TO THEIR UNIT OF ORIGIN

The following form is a checklist with all of the above information listed in greater detail. Candidates are recommended to download this form and check each appropriate item to ensure adherence to all USACS policies and regulations.

Directions

From I-185 or Victory Drive

From I-185, travel south towards Fort Benning. I-185 will end and you will enter Ft. Benning. As you approach the security gate the facility to register your vehicle on post during your training will be to your left. Once you have cleared the gate you will immediately turn right onto Custer Rd. Follow this for approximately a mile, then take a left at the next stoplight onto Ft Benning Blvd. As you enter the residential area of Main Post the road will fork. Go right onto Vibbert Ave. Hall St will be on your left, just past Doughboy Stadium and the post office. The Combatives School is on the left and it faces Olsen Hall directly across the field.

Parking

Parking is available at the Combatives School, however, Do not park at the curb directly in front of the school or in any of the Cadre parking spots marked with yellow paint.

 

Level 1 and 2 certification should be conducted at the Battalion and Brigade Level by a United States Army Combatives School trained Basic Combatives Instructors Course or Tactical Combatives Instructors Course certified Battalion and Brigade Master Combatives Trainer.
