Vet clinic coming to Camp Humphreys

PYEONGTAEK, South Korea — Camp Humphreys is expected to have its first veterinary clinic by July, officials said Friday.

Humphreys pet owners currently must use the vet clinic at Osan Air Base, about a 40-minute drive north, or wait for Osan vets to make twice-monthly visits.

The clinic is the latest step officials are taking to meet the needs of Humphreys’ growing number of families, said Robert H. McElroy, spokesman for U.S. Army Garrison-Humphreys.

“The increase in the number of families here has brought with it an increase in the number of pets,” he said.

The U.S. military is moving to increase substantially the number of soldiers serving in South Korea for two- and three-year tours, accompanied by their families. In the past most have served one-year Korea tours without families.

The one-story, 4,000-square-foot clinic will cost about $632,000 to build and will be replaced in the future with a larger, permanent one.

It’s to go up near the 121st Combat Support Hospital (South), west of the Desiderio Army Airfield runway.

The Seong Bo Construction Ind. Co. Ltd., will build the clinic under contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Far East District.
