Although the threat was a mock explosive device, the training was real for the young warfighters assigned to 3rd Platoon, 443rd Military Police Company.

Morris, an instructor with the 10th Battalion, 80th Regiment, teaches intermediate level education to Army Reserve, National Guard and active duty majors as a gateway for promotion to lieutenant colonel.

    Three Citizen Soldiers inducted into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club each credit their family members with helping them attain membership. The level of commitment required to prepare for, and participate in events like the SAMC makes family support almost mandatory, according to Sgt. 1st Class Martin Rodriguez, acting first sergeant of the 1/104th Military Police Company. Rodriguez said that Nicol Zumpf, his fiancé and mother of his two children, maintained their household while he was away competing in the 80th Training Command's Best Warrior Competition which the command integrated into the SAMC board process, and she also helped him prepare.

    Sgt. 1st Class Samuel Gilpin, 7th Battalion, 95th Regiment, was selected for induction into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club after board proceedings at Fort Knox, Ky., Oct. 11, 2012. Gilpin said he was honored when his senior enlisted leader, Command Sgt. Major Kelly Largent, recognized his leadership abilities and nominated him for the board. Radiation poisoning is extremely serious, so it was lucky for the villagers that the threat was only part of the 371st's mobilization training scenario.

    With less than 24 hours until the notional detonation of a 10-kiloton nuclear device in a major Midwestern city, military exercise specialists were putting the final touches on a national catastrophic incident exercise that will test more than 9,000 service members and civilians in 11 training locations and airfields spread across 5,000 square miles in southern Indiana and northern Kentucky. Exercise control specialists from U.S. Army North made final preparations July 25 for Vibrant Response 13, a major field exercise conducted by U.S. Northern Command and led by Army North. Service members and civilians from the military and other federal agencies throughout the country are training to respond in the event of a catastrophic domestic incident.
