    The Department of the Army confirmed today the Department of DefenseAca,!a,,cs announcement for the next rotation of major units scheduled to deploy in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The announcement involves a corps headquarters, a division headquarters, and seven brigade combat teams consisting of approximately 22,000 people. The deployment window for these units will begin this winter and continue into summer 2009.

    Soldiers, NCOs and Officers from the 8th Theater Sustainment Command (TSC) headquarters led Joint Logistics Over The Shore (JLOTS) 2008, Exercise Pacific Strike, June 1 to Aug. 1. Soldiers from the 45th Sustainment Brigade, 8th TSC, and the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division loaded their equipment for transport on the USNS Pililaau. The Pililaau brought the equipment to Camp Pendleton where it would be downloaded in-stream to the beaches of Camp Pendleton, where later all of it would be driven to Fort Irwin, Calif., for a mission rehearsal exercise prior to their deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers takes on several missions in the event of a domestic disaster. The Corps' top three priorities in any disaster are to: support immediate emergency response priorities; sustain lives with critical commodities, temporary emergency power and other needs; and set conditions for recovery by assessing and restoring coastal protection and navigation infrastructure. The Corps took on these missions and then some when Hurricane Ike hit the Gulf Coast of Texas in September 2008.
