    The U.S. Army concluded its three-week assessment of a waveform that could help separated squads maintain communications despite terrain and obstructions, during its annual integrated capabilities event at Fort Dix on June 25. The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command's communications-electronics cenA,A!ter conducted a 36 node assessment of the Soldier Radio Waveform in a relevant field environment. This was done to gauge the waveform's ability to support platoon-level data and voice traffic from the rifleman up to the squad leader. When squads spread out, they can potentially loose communications due to obstructions in the terrain. SRW is "exciting" because the network "self heals" its fragmented connectivity by leveraging other squad radios using the waveform.

    Airmen from Fort Riley's 10th Air Support Operations Squadron marched more than 470 miles to remember a fallen airman. The memorial ruck march began June 10 at 12:47 p.m. - the time of Senior Airman Bradley Smith's death - from his gravesite in Glen Carbon, Ill. Two airmen walked together for a 12-mile leg around the clock through three states for seven days. The march memorialized Smith, who died Jan. 3 while serving with the 10th ASOS in Afghanistan.

    Fort Riley celebrated the opening of new Farrelly Health Clinic. The new clinic is cost $26 million, it is a 52,000-square-foot facility that will provide outpatient health care to Soldiers and Family members from 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Engineer Battalion, and 1st Infantry Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion. Family members assigned to these units will continue to receive outpatient care at FHC throughout deployments. This facility introduces a patient-center medical home model towards the treatment of Soldiers and Family members under one roof. Patients have services available to them in the disciplines of radiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral health, optometry and radiology all within the clinic. Other available services include patient administration, pharmacy and laboratory. Chiropractic care also will be accessible only to active-duty servicemembers.
