University of Colorado Technologies Available for Licensing

The University of Colorado is singularly positioned to be a leader in the cleantech revolution of the 21st century. It has world leading researchers in many of the key areas for next generation energy and efficiency solutions: advanced materials, chemical & biological engineering, building systems, carbon capture, grid management, wind turbine control, storage, and water management.

CU-Boulder is a major university partner within the Alliance for Sustainable Energy, which manages the National Renewable Energy Laboratory; NREL is located just 20 miles away and has strong collaborations with the University across all areas of energy research. CU is also a partner in the Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory (CREC), which works with public agencies, industry partners, and other universities and colleges to develop renewable energy products and technologies for rapid transfer to the marketplace. CREC currently supports six multi-institution research centers:

  • Colorado Center for Biorefining and Biofuels (C2B2)
  • Center for Revolutionary Solar Photoconversion (CRSP)
  • Solar Technology Acceleration Center (SolarTAC)
  • Center for Research and Education in Wind (CREW)
  • Carbon Management Center
  • Energy Efficiency and Management Center

In addition, Boulder is a hub for entrepreneurial activities with its recent ranking as the #1 start-up city in America.

Tech Commercialization at CU

CU Cleantech’s Market Assessment Program (MAP) and Proof of Concept (POC) program work with entrepreneurs and industry experts to identify commercialization feasibility and market opportunity for our most promising technologies, and provides early guidance for our researchers and tech transfer office to successfully navigate the commercialization process. The MAP program has been recognized as a best practice solution for early stage cleantech commercialization by the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) and the Association of State Energy Research and Tech Transfer Institutions (ASERTTI).
