These expert technicians must have the precise and steady hand of a surgeon while using an arc welder. They can make just about anything an aircraft could need from metal, and it's their job to design, weld, heat treat, fabricate, and use precision tools, components, and assemblies for aerospace weapon systems. Aircraft Metals Technology Specialists are specially trained in:
- Metal repair and fabrication processes
- Composition of metals and machinable materials
- Weld specifications
- Metal tempering
- Forging
- Mechanical drawings
- Use of precision measuring devices and tools
- Metal fabricating by oxyacetylene, metallic arc, and inert gas shielded arc
- Operation and capacity of metal working and welding equipment
- Use and fabrication of layout and fixture devices
- Safety codes and practices regarding equipment and supplies
- Hazards of explosive gasses, hazardous rays, and fumes
- Proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials
- Normal depth perception

Families and Part-time members coverage is offered through TRICARE Reserve Select and is a premium-based health plan available worldwide to Selected Reserve members of the Ready Reserve (and their families) who are not eligible for, or enrolled in the Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) program.
