8/24/2012 - KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- Seventeen Airmen from the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center contracting office and family members spent Aug. 18 volunteering to prime and paint a house for Habitat for Humanity.

Senior Airman Tyler Macdonald organized the office effort.

"I volunteered recently when my wife and kids were out of town," said Macdonald. "It was something to do on a weekend to keep me busy. I thought this was a worthy cause. I mentioned how much I enjoyed it to some of my peers, who said they would love to do something like that. I organized the group with Habitat for Humanity and we volunteered a total of 102 hours Saturday."

The group was tasked with the priming and painting of the inside of a house and garage.

"I would absolutely recommend that people do something like this," said Macdonald. "It's important for Airmen to be involved in the community, one way or another. Volunteering is essential because you're doing something worthwhile and enhancing the public's positive image of our Air Force. It is a humbling experience to be part of a larger group of people trying to do some good in the community."

Macdonald said he would like to organize volunteer opportunities more often.

"Next, I'd like to set up a volunteer opportunity with the entire Nuclear Weapons Center," said Macdonald. "This could be a recurring event. I think we could have enough people to be able to do this a few times a year. It's great for teambuilding and camaraderie."
