8/3/2012 - KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- The Kirtland Air Force Base Small Business Office and the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce will team up to present the inaugural "Small BizOps Day" Aug. 23. The event, at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, is part of an expanded outreach by Kirtland's Small Business Office to enhance contact with New Mexico's small businesses interested in contracting with the base.

"We want to ramp up the contact between the two and tap into the outstanding small-business talent New Mexico offers," said Scott Cook, director of the Kirtland Small Business Office.

The Albuquerque area has long provided robust business partners and the base wants to continue and expand that tradition, said Cook.

"Contracting with the government can be quite daunting for business candidates new to the process. The "Small BizOps Day" is designed to help new candidates in navigating the government contracting process and to assist in connecting them with on-base organizations interested in their services," adds Cook.

The daylong event will include Air Force representatives and other government agencies, will begin with a morning seminar informing the business operators of agency needs.

"New Mexico small businesses are vital to our mission success at Kirtland, so it is critical that we continue to find opportunities to enhance our communication and relationship with the small business community," said Tom Berardinelli, Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center chief of staff here.

Activities will include information on how to do business with the government, and representatives from the financial community will provide direction on how to acquire capital to operate and expand small businesses.

"Representatives from the U.S. Federal Reserve will also be on hand; we're serious about doing business in New Mexico," said Cook.

Breakout networking sessions will follow in the early afternoon, allowing individual business operators to meet directly with government agency representatives.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude around 3 p.m. The National Hispanic Cultural Center is at 1701 4th Street SW.
