2/1/2013 - KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- Most military families today are not saving adequately for retirement, and many do not have an emergency fund. Military Saves, a partner in the Department of Defense Financial Readiness Campaign, created "Military Saves Week" in 2007 to motivate service members and their families to better their finances.
Since then, more than 128,000 individuals have taken the Saver Pledge, a commitment to begin the journey toward financial freedom.
In 2013, Military Saves Week encourages everyone to "Set a Goal, Make a Plan, Save Automatically."Military Saves provides helpful tips for successful saving, establishing credit, paying down debt, planning for retirement and much more.
This year, Military Saves Week is Feb. 25 to March 2. When savers take the Military Saves pledge, they can opt to receive:
Free subscription to the monthly Military Saves e-newsletter
Quarterly e-newsletters from America Saves
Free access to Savers Tracking Tool to help reach saving goals
To learn more about special programs on saving, reducing debt, and the Thrift Savings Plan, call the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 846-0741.
