2/1/2013 - KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- The 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Office, which serves as the installation PA office for Kirtland AFB, was recently recognized as the 2012 Outstanding Air Force Materiel Command Public Affairs Office for the best overall communication program.

The office also received the 2012 AFMC Best Crisis Communication Award for its response to an unplanned event.

According to the award package, the office was cited for their support of more than 100 events and visits, to include the Lt. Gen. Leo Marquez memorialization ceremony, visits by New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, and the support provided to the Lone Survivor film production.

The office was also recognized for responding to more than 150 local, regional and national media queries and processing more than 1,500 cases for security and policy review.

The crisis communication award recognized the office for the coordinated response with the New Mexico Environment Department concerning contaminants in the fuel plume.

The quick response ensured accurate information was available to the media and the public and minimized negative coverage.
