Major General Emmett R. Titshaw, Jr.

The Adjutant General

Major General Emmett TitshawMajor General Emmett R. Titshaw, Jr, assumed duties as the Adjutant General of Florida on June 26, 2010.  He previously served as Special Assistant to the Director, Air National Guard and also as the Air National Guard Advisor to the Chief of Staff, United States Air Force.  In this position, General Titshaw advised the Chief of Staff and senior Air Force leadership on how best to organize, train, equip, and employ the Air National Guard.

General Titshaw enlisted in the Florida Air National Guard in May 1970 and received a direct commission the same year.  In 1972, he completed Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi, receiving the Distinguished Graduate Award.  After earning his wings, General Titshaw was assigned as a Squadron Fighter Pilot, 159th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Jacksonville, Florida.

General Titshaw has served in a number of assignments with the 125th Fighter Interceptor Group, later designated the 125th Fighter Wing.  These include Air Operations Officer, Fighter Squadron Commander, Deputy Commander for Operations, and Commander, 125th Fighter Interceptor Group.  His key staff assignments include Director of Operations and, later, Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Florida Air National Guard, St. Augustine, Florida.  In August 2001, General Titshaw was selected as Assistant Adjutant General-Air and Commander, Florida Air National Guard.

From October 2004 to March 2005, while serving as Assistant Adjutant General-Air, Major General Titshaw was the Battle Commander, Combined Air Operations Center; Continental North American Aerospace Defense Region.  During 2005, he served as Deputy Commander, Joint Force Headquarters, Florida National Guard and Commander, Joint Task Force Florida for Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma.

In 2006, he was assigned as Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander Air Combat Command. From November 2008 through February 2009, General Titshaw served as Acting Director, Air National Guard, Washington, D.C.

General Titshaw is a graduate of the Air War College.  His awards and decorations include the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Florida Cross, the Florida Distinguished Service Medal, and the Florida Meritorious Service Medal.

A military command pilot and a commercial airline pilot for over 25 years, General Titshaw has more than 4,500 hours in the F-15, F-16, C-131, F-106, and the F-102.

General Titshaw was born in Jacksonville, Florida.  He graduated from Auburn University, Alabama, with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.
