4/23/2012 - WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- On April 16th the Enterprise Sourcing Group, at Wright Patterson AFB, in conjunction with AbilityOne® Nonprofit Agencies, held a conference and exhibit show at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Club and Banquet Center.

The event provided WPAFB contracting officers and program managers the chance to view and discuss AbilityOne® capabilities and its usefulness in meeting Air Force program/project requirements. The AbilityOne® Program is the largest source of employment for people with disabilities, by providing products and services for the Federal government and DoD.

"This was a unique opportunity for acquisition professionals here at Wright-Patterson to hear first-hand the benefits of buying goods and services through AbilityOne®, National Industries for the Blind and National Industries for the Severely Handi-capped," said Mr. Carl Shofner, Director of the ESG. "We learned directly from their leadership how to work with AbilityOne® providers and heard from Wounded Warrior, Nathan Short. His story was truly inspiring and speaks to the great things that AbilityOne® does, not only to provide quality goods and services, but in providing opportunities to our valued servicemen and women."

ESG is Wright Patt's newest unit, designed specifically to help meet DoD budget-cutting mandates by strategically sourcing common goods and services across 71 installations.

The one-day conference provided opportunity for government acquisition personnel to learn about contracting opportunities with AbilityOne®, NIB and NISH. The event featured exhibits promoting products and services offered by AbilityOne® and was capped off with a visit to local Non-profit organizations such as; Goodwill Easter Seals of the Miami Valley, TAC Indus-tries, Greene Inc., Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the WPAFB Supply Center.
