Infrastructure Investment

Our nation's infrastructure is the backbone of our economy, and investment in roads, bridges, and highways is a proven job creator. Our transportation and physical infrastructure is aging and needs to be rebuilt, yet we lag behind many other advanced countries in the level of our investment. I am committed to changing that.

Since coming to the United States Senate, I have succeeded in doubling federal transportation funding for California, creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs in our state while also improving our roads and mass transit. I worked hard to ensure that the Recovery Act provided $48 billion for transportation improvements nationwide, including more than $6 billion for California.

Today, as Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, I am leading the fight for the 21st century infrastructure that our country needs. I am working with bipartisan members of the EPW Committee to pass the next surface transportation bill, which will create thousands of jobs right away and make the improvements necessary to meet our future transportation needs and ensure long-term economic growth.
