Community Connections Project is a cultural and professional exchange visitor program whose broad public diplomacy and development goal is to contribute to democratic and economic reforms in CAR countries of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan by encouraging active citizen participation in democratic processes and promoting mutual understanding between American and Central Asian people.  Exchanges programs are an effective cross cutting tool that transfers new skills and knowledge and builds professional capacity of local leaders. Program Goal and Objective: The overall goal of the Community Connections Project is to increase the utilization of best practices in terms of professional development for participants who will in turn, use these practices to support democratic and free-market economic reforms in their respective home countries.  Additionally, the Community Connections Project will increase the impact of concurrent USAID activities in the areas of democracy and governance, economic growth and health by creating a conducive operating environment sympathetic to reforms.  The objective of the Community Connections Project is to strengthen the professional capability of civil society, public, and private sector leaders in participant countries.  In this context, “to strengthen professional capability” means to increase the capacity or talent of participants so they can influence change in their communities.  This will be achieved by exposing participants to new practices in their area of expertise and providing them with the resources and skills necessary to make informed decisions, adopt and eventually implement what they have learned in their field of work.
