2/6/2012 - SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 80th Flying Training Wing announced its 2011 Annual Award Winners during a ceremony at the Sheppard Club Feb. 4.

With 2011 being the 30th Anniversary for the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program, the theme for the awards banquet was appropriately titled ENJJPT throughout History.

Guest speaker for the night was Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Kendall, director of Warfighter Systems Integration and previous wing commander for the 80th FTW from 2005 to 2007.

Kendall's message spoke to the importance of coalition partners, pointing to his recent assignment as the commander of the Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan to illustrate. During the general's time in Afghanistan he had 13 NATO nations working for him.

In order to create an effective coalition proper training and constant partnering is required.

"We defended the base as a partnership of allies," Kendall said. "Everything we did there was to NATO standards and regulations."

"In order to be successful we have to work together, we have a common set of rules but we have to trust each other, trust the guy or girl to our sides and know what they will do," said Kendall. "We have to continue to operate the way we employ. We train together, live together and fight together."

To conclude his speech the general reflected back on the last 30 years of the ENJJPT program and looked toward the future.

"NATO is a strength," he said. "Over the last 30 years, the ENJJPT program has grown as a model in the international community, and I hope that the mission behind ENJJPT remains strong and viable over the next 30 years."

After the general's speech, the following award winners were congratulated by Col. Dieter Bareihs, 80th FTW commander and Chief Master Sgt. Phillip Browning, 80th FTW command chief.
