12/19/2012 - SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Master Sgt. Jason Bell of the 82nd Medical Support Squadron was named the the 82nd TRW "Commander's Wingman of Choice" award winner for the week of Dec. 17-21 during the weekly wing staff meeting on Dec. 19.

The 82nd Training Wing "Commander's Wingman of Choice" award program is the commander's way of acknowledging Airmen for a job well done and to recognize Airmen who exemplify the spirit of the program.

Award recipients, who can be either military or government civilian employees, are nominated by their respective groups and also includes the wing staff agencies. Criteria for consideration include outstanding duty performance, community involvement and exemplary leadership.

Go by name: Jason

Duty title: Flight Chief, Medical Readiness and interim 82nd Medical Group first sergeant

Hometown: Dickson, Tenn.

Years of service and time on Sheppard: 17 yrs time in service, four years at Sheppard

Family: wife Lilia, daughter Joslynn and sons Zachary and Will

Education: A.S., Health Care Administration, Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) and the Operational Instructor Certificate, CCAF

What inspires you: Mentoring and witnessing troubled Airmen turn their life and career around by exceeding the standards and expectations levied upon them. Seeing others going above and beyond, without expectation of a reward, but only the gratification of service to others.

Future goals: Get promoted to senior master sergeant, growing old with my wife and watching my family grow up and succeed.

Greatest accomplishment: Marrying the woman of my dreams, the birth of our children and making master sergeant.

Hobbies, off-duty interests: Watching my children's sporting events, reading, and relaxing with his wife.

Why is this person the Wingman of Choice? Master Sgt. Bell epitomizes the team concept. He always offers assistance to everyone and he is very flexible to ever-changing work schedules/tasks. Outside the realm of his responsibilities as flight chief of Medical Readiness, Sergeant Bell was hand-picked to be the interim 82nd MDG first sergeant in which he intervened with a suicidal member and prevented self harm. Next, he instituted a monthly dormitory inspection schedule and briefed leadership on emergent issues. Sergeant Bell also conducted two dorm and two gate sweeps and facilitated discharge of two drug abusers reinforcing the Air Force's zero tolerance policy. Lastly, Sergeant Bell assisted an Airman who experienced a promotion date error in MilPDS, had the member's date of rank corrected and the member was able to receive six month of the difference for back pay.

Commander's comments: Clearly, Master Sgt. Bell exhibits exceptional dedication to accomplishing his job with a high level of technical proficiency and unwavering merit. His can-do attitude and spirit of teamwork are the true embodiment of a warrior, not only to 82 MDG, but to the entire 82d Training Wing. - Lt. Col. Patricia Fowler, 82nd Medical Support Squadron
