Trends on Tuesday: Tablets Taking a Bite Out of PCs

Gigaom recently compared data from IDC on fourth quarter PC tablet and PC sales and found

IDC estimates that 52.5 million tablets shipped in the final quarter of 2012. That compares to 89.8 million personal computers shipped during the same quarter…

For tablets that’s more than half the number of PCs. Gigaom says this is based on changing user preference.

But for many, particularly consumers, today’s tablets do just enough to be the next computing purchase.

As people adopt tablets for their next computer experience, they will expect anytime, anywhere experiences. Agencies should consider adopting a mobile first approach.
