SMP and BCT confusion

I've heard some people doing SMP don't have to go to BCT and AIT. Why is that? I am a high school junior, so would it be necessary to go to BCT and AIT during the next 2 summers? Would most say this option better than applying for an rotc scholarship and commisioning ctive duty after 4 years in college?

going to basic for SMP program gives you extra incentives...but isn't a dead-on requirement. It can be an add-on to ROTC.

BCT/AIT is only needed if you want to eligible for the MGIB and Kicker. If you snag an ROTC scholarship, college is already paid for.

How would it work if I didn't go? Then i would just got to AIT after i graduate?

You wouldn't go to AIT at all. After commissioning, you'll attend BOLC.

Is there a way i can find out if i get the ROTC scholarship before i go to BCT? If i go to BCT and find out i got the scholarship that summer would have completely unnecessary.

This part is just confusing. I won't find out if i get the scholarship until after i miss my chance to enlist. So it's like i have to pick one and hope it works out. I want to enlist before my junior year ends so i can go to BCT if neccessary but i wont find out if i get the scholarpship until my senior year.

I think jcleppe should be able to answer this. I don't know a whole lot about SMP, otherwise I'd try to answer it for you.

Miss your chance to enlist? You can enlist anytime before you get the scholarship. Just hold off signing your contract until you find out. It's easy.

If you get the ROTC scholarship you will be good to go anyway.
