Small Business 101 Workshop

Congresswoman Judy Chu is hosting her annual Small Business 101 Workshop. Congresswoman Chu is a member of the U.S. House Committee on Small Business and recognizes the important role that small businesses play in our economic recovery. The purpose of the workshop is to help local small businesses identify available federal resources. The workshop will feature speakers from the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Small Business Development Centers.

Rep. Chu Applauds Major Federal Contracting Reform

Washington, DC – Last week, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-32) passed major federal contracting reform for small businesses when the House approved a package of eight bills included in the National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2013 (NDAA). This package came out of the Small Business Subcommittee on Contracting and the Workforce of which Rep. Chu is the Ranking Member. The reforms increase contracting opportunities for small business and create protections against contracting fraud and abuse. Entrepreneur Startup Growth Act (HR 3571)

Entrepreneur Startup Growth Act (HR 3571) Today, 1 out of every 3 new jobs is created by self-employed startup businesses. Self-employed startups in their first year of existence create an average of 3 million jobs per year. In fact, without business startups, there would be no net job growth in the U.S. economy. Nearly all net job creation since 1980 has occurred in self-employed startups less than five years old.

Rep. Judy Chu Applauds SBA Grants to California for Trade, Export Promotion

EL MONTE – Rep. Judy Chu, D-El Monte, applauded today the announcement by the U.S. Small Business Administration that it is providing $30 million in grants to states, including more than $2.5 million to California, to help increase exporting by small businesses during the next 12 months. The grants were authorized by the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010, under the State Trade and Export Promotion Program (STEP).
