The United States government broke ground for the construction of the new American Embassy on Pariser Platz in October 2004.
The building opened for business in the spring of 2008.

The Beijing New Embassy Compound (NEC) was the second largest overseas construction project in the history of the Department of State.
The multi-building complex is spread over a 10-acre (4-hectare) site. Ground breaking for the construction started in February 2004 and the building was completed in April 2007. The website of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing has the full story.
