NGS CORS Server Problem

Thu, Feb 14, 2013 9:00 AM EST
Our main web server failed Monday evening. The temporary replacement has a much smaller CPU availability. So the number of connections is sharply limited. Users therefore are encountering the throttles. Our ETA is 24hrs to 1 week depending on the vendor confirming unequivocally the time-frame for replacing the broken part.
Sorry, keep trying, but not too often!.

Dolan Springs, AZ (AZDS) is Down

Fri, Dec 21, 2012
Below is the latest information I have regarding the AZDS station as reported by the Leica representative. Bottom line, the station will be out of commission until Mohave can do something about the ATandT bandwidth in the area.

"In working on your server this morning I believe the problem is indeed rooted in high latency communications to the Mojave sites. The connections are not being disconnected, thus Spider reports no communications outage. However, the datastream is so sparse that Spider is reporting a data tracking problem. This is supported also by the fact that the sensor web page is unable to load fully in order to work directly on the sensor."

I would support Shannon's idea that there are problem with the carrier service in their area.

At this moment I do not see any problems with Spider. And do not suspect any problems with the sensor (AZDS).
Thanks, Tim

Connection to VTMI has been restored as of 10:47 this morning. The status of VTDA is still unknown. There are many wires and trees down in the area and the school is currently closed. We will know more tomorrow.

7:10 AM
Both the Danby CORS (VTDA) and the Middlebury CORS (VTMI) have been down since yesterday afternoon/evening. It is unknown at this time if the outages are storm related or not. Both stations are at schools, and it is likely that those schools are closed for the day due to the storm, so we probably will not be able to get in touch with on-site support until tomorrow. We will keep you posted.

Site MCHN in Michipicoten, ON

Sunday Oct 28, 2012
I am afraid I have bad news about our MCHN station near Wawa. The Wawa region, including Michipicoten Harbour, was devastated by heavy rains and floods. All roads into the harbour area have been washed out and everyone has been evacuated. Our local contact's home, about 100 m from the gauge, was destroyed by a raging creek. Fortunately, they were evacuated by helicopter uninjured but lost everything but the clothes on their backs.

The fate of the water gauge is uncertain. I'm not sure how close it is to the creek but will try to find out. Power and phone lines are apparently out and not likely to be restored for some time. It may also be quite a while before roads into the area are opened up so we can inspect the condition of the gauge building. I will advise when I have more information about it.
Best regards,
-Mike

Communications to our MCHN site (Michipicoten near Wawa, ON on Lake Superior) are off-line. I am trying to reach our local contact to reset the satellite modem and router. No loss of data is expected. I will advise when the site is back on-line and Thursday's data is retrieved and archived.

Site LYCO in Williamsport, PA

Thursday May 31, 2012
When I returned from the field this morning I was told of a water main break near the server for our LYCO CORS site. Upon inspection our engineer has concluded that our computer hardware is a total loss but that our antenna setup has remained untouched and unharmed. We are currently seeking a solution with our vender for both hardware and software.

Please be advised that our site will be down until we can affect a replacement. We understand the need for expediency and ask that you bear with us until such time as we can install a replacement for our system.
