5th Marine Regiment conducts expeditionary combined arms operations in order to support theater engagement plans, crisis response contingency operations, and a broad spectrum of counterinsurgency operations. Upon receipt of an execution order the Regimental Headquarters will deploy on short notice as either the ground combat element or as a major subordinate element of the 1st Marine Division in order to provide command and control and sustainment of subordinate and attached units in the conduct of combat operations. As directed, the Regiment prepares its (4) infantry battalions for rotational deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM or as Battalion Landing Teams (BLTs) for deployment with Marine Expeditionary Units (MEUs) Special Operations Capable (SOC) in order to support I MEF operations and training in the PACOM and CENTCOM AORs.
