The Fort Bliss Tax Center is here to serve eligible patrons, saving time and money removing the burden of self-preparation or hiring a commercial tax preparer. The Fort Bliss Tax Center offers FREE tax preparation, e-filing of both the Federal and State return, and direct deposit.

Who is Eligible for Our Services

 
  • All active duty personnel and their dependents

  • Reservists on active duty more than 29 days and their dependents

  • Scope of the Fort Bliss Tax Center Operation:

     

    The Fort Bliss Tax Center provides tax preparation services for 2011 tax returns and amends tax returns from 2009 and 2010. Last year, the Tax Center saved Soldiers and Family member over $1.1 million in tax preparation fees. Every Tax Center staff member is trained and certified by the IRS and guarantees efficient and accurate tax preparation. In fact, the Tax Center staff receives the same training as any commercial tax preparer. The Tax Center offers free e-filing, which allows customers to receive their refunds in as little as one week. The Tax Center now offers the IRS FAST program, Free Assisted Self-Service Tax Preparation, that allows customers the choice between three tax preparation software to complete their own tax return. Now taxpayer who opt to complete their own taxes can do so for free at the tax center using tax center computers and software. The FAST program is available during all business hours on a walk-in basis.

    Directions to the Tax Center:

    Main Post Tax Center
    The Main Post Tax Center is located at Building 2910, Cassidy Road, to the immediate left of the Stout Gym running track. If entering the Cassidy gate from 54, stay straight. Building 2910 is on the left after passing through the intersection of Cassidy and Carrington Road.

    East Fort Bliss Tax Center
    The East Fort Bliss Tax Center is located in Building 403 on Sergeant Major Blvd. If entering through the Sergeant Major Blvd gate from Airway Blvd or the 601 Spur, stay straight and you will pass the Mini-PX or shoppette on your right. Soon after the shoppette you will begin to see several trailers on your right. Bldg. 401 is located in the set of 4 trailers on the corner of SGM Blvd and Thunderhorse Way.


    What You Need to Bring:

  • Copies of your last federal tax return, go to irs.gov to request a copy

  • Military ID Card
  •  
  • Your Social Security Card and the Social Security Card of your spouse and dependants
  •  
  • All W-2 and 1099 forms received
  •  
  • All other forms needed
  •  
  • SSN and EIN for each child care provider
  •  
  • Blank check with bank routing number for direct deposit of refund
  •  
  • Information documenting payment of alimony (divorce decree or separation agreement)
  •  
  • Special Power of Attorney for Taxes, if needed
  • Specific Military Issues:

     
  • Disability pay: Disability pay is not considered as taxable income.
  •  
  • TDY pay: TDY pay is a non-taxable benefit to the extent it does not exceed TDY expenses. Taxpayers are generally not required to report amounts received as reimbursement for TDY.
  •  
  • Extension for filing: Service members serving in a qualified combat zone (to include Afghanistan)  or hazardous duty area (to include Afghanistan & Iraq) have up to 180 days following the date of their return to file taxes.  Soldiers serving in a qualified combat zone during tax season will also be entitled to an additional extension time.
