Capitol Hill Connection for the Week of May 10, 2011

May 10th, 2011 · 1 Comment

Each week while Congress is in session the Office of Advocacy will post a highlights schedule of congressional hearings and committee markups that we think will be of interest to stakeholders in the small business community. For further information on the hearings in question please contact the relevant congressional committee.

THIS WEEK

Congress is in session this week as discussions will continue about the federal budget and the debt limit. A small group of lawmakers will gather Tuesday for a second round of talks with Vice President Biden on the subject.

One proposal expected to be introduced by Democrats on Tuesday would reduce the deficit by using savings from repealed oil and gas industry tax breaks. The House will take up two offshore drilling bills this week: one on offshore permits and drilling and one on offshore moratorium reversal.

After a failed cloture vote last Wednesday, the Senate has moved on from the SBIR and STTR reauthorization bill.  With the programs expiring the end of May, Congress will likely seek to pass a continuing resolution to keep the programs going. The House continues to move their SBIR and STTR reauthorization bill through the committee process.
