REP FUDGE: "SUPER REFUND SATURDAY BRINGS FREE TAX FILING HELP TO WORKING FAMILIES"

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OHIO  – Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (D-OH11) will visit a volunteer income tax assistance site on Saturday, March 5that 11am at the main campus of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C). The program, called Super Refund Saturday, provides working families with free tax preparation services, sponsored by PNC Bank, Tri-C and the EITC Coalition.

In 2010, the Coalition filed more than 8,000 tax returns on behalf of low and moderate income families, returning more than $11 million to taxpayers in Cuyahoga County. Many of those wage earners qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) which can be worth up to $5,600 for married families with three children.  Congresswoman Fudge urges low income families to apply for the EITC credit.  “With free tax filing help available, working families may not only discover they are eligible for a tax credit, but they keep more of their earnings by eliminating tax preparation fees,” said Congresswoman Fudge.

A study by Policy Matters Ohio also found that as participation in free income tax assistance programs increased last year, fewer wage earners obtained costly Refund Anticipation Loans.
