CONGRESSWOMAN FUDGE STATEMENT ON NEW OHIO EARLY VOTING DIRECTIVE

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OH - Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge issued the following statement regarding today's directive by  Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted establishing standardized early voting hours throughout the state of Ohio:

"Secretary Husted has decided to allow a limited number of early evening voting hours for working Ohioans.  His directive excludes weekend voting opportunities during the early voting period, eliminating the level of access Cuyahoga County voters had during the 2008 election.

I understand that the Secretary says that he desires uniformity, but the issue is one of fairness and access, not a one-size-fits-all approach.  Ohio counties are diverse in size and population - access to the ballot box demands that decisions be based on those differences.  This directive is an opportunity lost to fully meet the needs of our citizens."
