The H-1B Technical Skills Training Grant Program funds projects that provide training and related activities to workers to assist them in gaining the skills and competencies needed to obtain or upgrade employment in high-growth industries or economic sectors. STEM Opportunities in the Workforce System Initiative
In 2008, ETA awarded $10 million in grant funds through the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Opportunities in the Workforce System Initiative (STEM Initiative). These grants were awarded through a two-phased competitive process to primarily expand and align current and new STEM workforce education and training strategies, activities, and resources in One Stop Career Centers to promote, attract, and prepare disadvantaged youth and dislocated workers for STEM careers, while simultaneously enhancing the competitive position of local and regional employers. Long-term Health Care Grants

The High Growth Job Training Initiative was an effort to prepare workers to take advantage of new and increasing job opportunities in high growth, high demand and economically vital sectors of the American economy. This initiative targeted worker training and career development resources toward helping workers gain the skills they need to build successful careers in these and other growing industries.

WIRED Initiative
In 2005, the Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) initiative was created to integrate education, economic and workforce development activities to demonstrate that talent development can drive economic transformation in regional economies across the United States. With the conclusion of this multi-year initiative in 2011, the Employment and Training Administration has archived the WIRED content developed by the agency and the 39 grantees to permit continued access by practitioners in workforce development and economic development. ETA, however, will no longer update the content found on these pages.
