Visit www.crimemapping.com to view regional crime maps and get automated e-mail alerts of crimes in your neighborhood!
You can view maps in either a satellite photo view or on a road map. Just enter an address or a location (Balboa Park, CA) in the ‘Search’ box to see crimes for the last week, or select a different date range (up to one year). The crimes can be compiled in a report format and shown as a graph. You can e-mail the link to others, which will be useful for Neighborhood Watch groups. The system has links to crime prevention services at local police agencies.
You can also subscribe to automated e-mails on recent crimes. Click the ‘Receive Crime Alerts’ button to enter an address, a distance radius (up to 2 miles), and select from a list of crimes. You will receive an e-mail notification when these criteria are met, with a link back to a map. This will replace the existing eWATCH service for City of San Diego users.
The police agencies in San Diego County take reports for all crime cases, arrests, citations and some traffic collisions, which provide the incident data for Crimemapping.com. These agencies are the San Diego County Sheriff (contract cities and unincorporated areas), the nine city police departments in the county (Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Coronado, Escondido, El Cajon, La Mesa, National City, Oceanside, San Diego) and the San Diego Harbor Police.
