Onboard Death and Illness Reporting
Based on Federal Regulations (42 CFR Part 71), the occurrence of deaths and certain illnesses suggestive of a communicable disease (defined in regulation) on international flights arriving to the U.S. must be reported to CDC’s Division of Global Migration and Quarantine (DGMQ). 42 CFR Part 70.4 requires reports of suspected cases of communicable disease (not defined in regulation) on interstate flights to be made to the local health authority with jurisdiction for the arrival airport. CDC has harmonized the guidance for these reporting requirements to facilitate reporting and on-ground response.
