Coats Opposes President’s Plan for More Tax Hikes, Stimulus Spending

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today issued the following statement after voting against the president’s $447 billion stimulus and tax hike plan. According to the Treasury Department’s Office of Tax Analysis, four out of five people hit by the 5.6% income surtax included in the president’s plan are employers.

“Tax increases on job creators and almost half a trillion dollars of more stimulus spending will not strengthen our economy and get Hoosiers back to work. After the failure of his first stimulus bill, the president should recognize that government spending does not create private-sector jobs. Reforming the tax code, eliminating harmful regulations and increasing exports are proven ways Congress can help our job creators invest and hire.”

Senator Coats supports the Senate Republican Jobs Plan, a pro-growth agenda that includes budget, tax, regulatory, trade, energy, workforce and health care proposals.
