Musician 1st Class Laura Rakel Pirruccello, piccolo, from San Antonio, Texas, joined the Coast Guard Band in October 2007. MU1 Pirruccello received a Bachelor of Music degree in both music education and flute performance from the University of North Texas and was awarded golf, music, and academic scholarships. She also received a Master of Music degree in flute performance from the Manhattan School of Music.
As both a competitive flutist and piccoloist, MU1 Pirruccello was a prize winner in many national and international competitions, including the Myrna Brown, Frank Bowen, NFA Piccolo Young Artist, Sorantin International, Music Teachers National Association, and the Entergy Young Texas Artist Music competitions. As a winner of the Entergy competition, she performed Ibert's Concerto for Flute with the Conroe Symphony during their 2005 season. MU1 Pirruccello has also recorded with the North Texas Wind Symphony and can be heard on numerous GIA recordings. She also participated in the National Orchestral Institute in Maryland. Her teachers include Linda Chesis, Mary Karen Clardy, Stephanie Mortimore, and Anna Henry.
