Bios
MU1 Laurie Baynard
Musician 1st Class Laurie Baynard joined the Coast Guard Band in March 2012. Originally from Westminster, South Carolina, MU1 Baynard earned a Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance from Southern Wesleyan University in 2009, and a Master of Music degree in flute performance from the University of Georgia in 2011. While attending UGA, she participated in numerous competitions including the Atlanta Flute Club’s 2009 Young Artist Competition, where she placed second overall. She also appeared as a soloist with the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra after winning the university’s concerto competition. MU1 Baynard has recorded with the UGA Wind Ensemble and can be heard on the Naxos label. Her primary teachers include Ray Spires, Leah Wilson, and Angela Jones-Reus.
