The Meteosat-series satellites have a geostationary 36000-km orbit, which provides an image of one hemisphere (42%) of the Earth every 30 min. The radiometer has three channels: 0.4-1.1 µm (panchromatic), 5.7-7.1 µm (high-temperature thermal, water vapor) and 10.5-12.5 µm. Meteosat images have a resolution of 2.5 km and 5 km, at the sub-satellite point (nadir).
Band | Wavelength Region (µm) | Resolution (m) |
1 | 0.4-1.1 (pan) | 2500 |
2 | 5.7-7.71 (TIR) | 5000 |
3 | 10.5-12.5 (TIR) | 5000 |
