About 673 MDG
 

The 673d Medical Group is comprised of approximately 1300 personnel who are dedicated to providing preventive, emergency and acute care services for approximately 166,000 beneficiaries. Health care services are also provided directly or coordinated for over 10,300 retirees and their dependents. Nearly 20% of the population of Anchorage, Alaska is eligible for care in our facility.

Built as 110-bed facility, this state of the art medical facility was opened in May of 1999 as a Joint Venture with Department of Veterans Affairs. It has over 467,922 square feet and valued at $191 million of which the Department of Veterans Affairs contributed $11 million. As a true Joint Venture, 673d Medical Group and Department of Veterans Affairs have one standard of care, integrated staff and integrating processes. There are total of 79 staffed beds that comprised of 53 inpatient beds, 22 same-day surgery beds and 4 antepartum beds.

Newly opened this year (2012) was the 34,000 square feet wing which houses the Mild Traumatic Brain Injury center (The only Air Force led mTBI center in the DoD), Family Advocacy Program, Mental Health, ADAPT, Pain Management, and Public Health.

The Alaska Fisher House is located next to the hospital in walking distance of the Bear entrance. It was opened in February of 2012 and can accommodate 12 families.

What makes 673d Medical Group different from other facilities?

1. We are a Joint Base comprised of USAF, USA, USN, USCG, USMC, USPHS and both Army and Air Force Guard/Reserve units.
2. We are a Joint Venture medical facility with the Department of Veterans Affairs and are the Veterans Affairs hospital for the state of Alaska.
3. We are also part of the Alaska Federal Health Care Partnership comprised of the DoD, VA, and Indian Health Service.

673d Medical Operations Squadron -
Approximately 340 health care professionals provide primary care including family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine and emergency medicine. Specialty care includes mental health, family advocacy, cardiopulmonary, dermatology, allergy/immunizations, neurology, gastroenterology, sleep lab, the traumatic brain injury clinic, substance abuse, physical therapy, chiropractic and occupational therapy. Normal clinic operations are weekdays with the exception of the Emergency Department which is open 24/7.

673d Dental Squadron -
The Dental Clinic is located on the second floor if the 673d Medical Group. The dental squadron provides a full range of services to active duty members including general dentistry, endodontics, periodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, implants and prosthodontics. Orthodontic services are limited to the treatment of severe malocclusion. A pediatric dentistry program is available to children and adolescents on a referral basis. The squadron supports an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency training program. Routine dental care for active duty family members is available in the local civilian community through the TRICARE Dental Plan. Sign in for dental sick call at the Dental Clinic is 0730 to 1230 hrs, Monday through Friday. Annual examination for active duty personnel are by appointment or walk-in basis. The dental clinic is open Monday through Friday with the exception of a training afternoon the third Thursday of each month. Emergency care is available after duty hours through the Emergency Department in the 673d Medical Group. The dental clinic telephone number is 580-5010. Family members should be enrolled for at least 60 days prior to making an appointment to be eligible for coverage. A list of local providers can be obtained at your assigned dental facility or through the UCCI website at www.ucci.com or www.metlife.com/tricare. Responsibility for FMDP enrollment falls on the service member and should be directly coordinated with UCCI or MetLife.

673d Aerospace Medicine Squadron - The squadron provides the following services that support the wing and our beneficiaries: flight medicine, primary care, preventative/occupational medicine, force health management, optometry, public health, occupational and environmental surveillance, CBRNE identification, human performance enhancement training, disaster/flight line response services, health promotion services and oversight of the installation PT testing program. Sick call for personnel on flying status is provided daily from 0730-0830 and 1300-1330 hrs at the Flight Medicine in Building 8497. For additional information, please call 551-4006.

673d Medical Support Squadron - The medical support squadron provides full complement of support services to medical group staff and beneficiaries to include: Personnel and Administrative Services, Medical Logistics, Information Systems, Medical Readiness, Patient Administration, TRICARE Operations, Resource Management, Nutritional Medicine, Pharmacy and Laboratory Services.

673d Surgical Operations Squadron - The 673d Surgical Operations Squadron offers full surgical specialty capability for general surgery, orthopedics, podiatry, obstetrics/gynecology, urology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology including laser refractive surgery for active duty members, wound care and comprehensive pain management.

673d Inpatient Squadron - Patients requiring inpatient or overnight care are admitted to the Intensive care unit, multi service unit, perinatal and neonatal unit, and labor and delivery unit. The Ambulatory Procedure Unit provides care for outpatients undergoing surgical procedures not requiring an overnight hospital stay. Anesthesia services include periooperative counseling, general and regional anesthetics, post operative pain management and 24/7 call coverage for obstetrical anesthesia.
