Lt. Col. Stephanie Samenus is the Mission Support Group Commander, 185th Air Refueling Wing, Iowa Air National Guard, Sioux City, Iowa. She commands nearly 400 Airmen who support all aspects of daily unit operations. She is responsible for the readiness of all unit personnel participating in routine/contingency federal missions & state DOMOPS.  She directs the 185th Air Refueling Wing (ARW) Emergency Operations Center and acts as the Wing's primary resource coordinator for accidents and disaster response taskings. She also ensures availability of essential base services including force support, engineering, communications, logistics, medical and security forces.

In 2011, Lt. Col. Samenus, served as the Expeditionary Mission Support Group Commander at the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing in Bagram, Afghanistan.  In this role, she commanded over 1,000 Airmen engaged in combat Ground/Air Operations. She advised the Wing Commander on all aspects of the Expeditionary Mission Support Group.

Lt. Col. Samenus has been assigned to a variety of key leadership positions at the 185th ARW to include Vice Wing Commander and Acting Commander of the 185th Medical Group.  As the Vice Wing Commander, Lt. Col. Samenus maintained liaisons with high ranking public officials, corporate leadership, civic groups, other reserve components and Joint Forces Headquarters staff.  She served as the initial point of contact for legislative activities and for the Inspector General complaint process. 

She represented the Wing Commander in meetings with congressional, state and local officials concerning Air National Guard programs and activities.  Lt. Col. Samenus served as the Program Manager for the Air National Guard Commanders' Development Course and has been an adjunct instructor at Western Iowa Technical College, in Sioux City, IA. Her many deployments include Afghanistan, Guam, Turkey, Japan, Germany and numerous stateside locations.

Lt. Col. Samenus is a native of St. Joseph, MO.  She started her military career with the Naval Reserve as a Supply Corps Officer-Fleet Industrial Supply Center (FISC Yokosuka) in 1993 and remained there until 1998 when she joined the 185th Fighter Wing as the traditional Budget Officer.  Lt. Col. Samenus left her distinguished career of 15 years as a partner with a regional Certified Public Accounting firm in 2001 and joined the 185th ARW on a full-time basis as the Wing Executive Staff Officer.
