  1. Looks like Astronauts Pete Conrad at (left) and Richard Gordon. (center), two of the crew of Apollo 12. Conrad was the Commander of Apollo 12 and Gordon was the Command Module Pilot. (That may be the third crew member – Alan Bean, the Lunar Module Pilot – in the back with the jacket on). Since a prime objective of the mission was to land next to JPL’s Surveyor lunar lander and retrieve some pieces of it (to later be studied on Earth to learn about the effects of long-term exposure to “Space weathering”), I suspect that the rod they are bantering about is an example of the piece of Surveyor they are getting ready to retrieve.

  2. The men in the foreground are Apollo astronauts Pete Conrad, David Scott, and Alan Bean (left-to-right). It looks like they have a lunar core sample tube. I predict this photo was taken in late summer or early fall of 1969, between Apollo 11 and 12 (Conrad and Bean were the Apollo 12 prime crew; Scott was backup commander). Please send me my million dollar prize. Thanks.

  3. Pete Conrad, Apollo 12 CDR, Dave Scott, Apollo 12 backup CDR, and Alan Bean, Apollo 12 LMP are laughing about the planned procedure to cut off some Surveyor 3 parts after Conrad and Bean land on the moon.

  4. The person wearing a coat and laughing is Bob Parks. The white haired person partially hidden in the background (and wearing a bow tie) is Conway Snyder. I don’t know what they are celebrating.

  5. The fellow in the coat is Alan Bean and not Bob Parks, but the guy in the background with the bow tie is indeed Conway Snyder. Since David Scott is about to cut the metal tube with some tin snips, I vote for it being a Surveyor part.

  6. The farthest back is Conway Synder probably with a bow tie. Joe Savino. Bob Parks on the right.
