American Community Survey

There are 21 new tables available for the 2007-2009 ACS 3-year data release that were unavailable in previous 3-year data releases. They cover a variety of areas, including Hispanic or Latino origin; foreign born, US citizenship status, year of entry, nativity; poverty; industry, occupation, class of worker; housing characteristics; and school enrollment.

Table B05006/C05006 "Place of Birth for the Foreign-Born Population" was modified from the 2006-2008 ACS 3-year data release. The table expanded the number of countries by 37; included Macau with China and Jan Mayen and Svalbard with Norway; and changed "United Kingdom" to "United Kingdom inc. Crown Dependencies."

Table B15004 "Poverty Status in the Past 12 Months by Sex by Educational Attainment for the Population 25 Years and Over" was removed as it was nearly identical to Table B17003 "Poverty Status in the Past 12 Months of Individuals by Sex by Educational Attainment."

Health Insurance Coverage

• Health insurance coverage was a new topic in the 2008 ACS 1-year data products and only a small set of tables were released last year. Now that a data quality review has been completed, the Census Bureau is expanding to a full suite of health insurance coverage products.
• There will be 55 new detailed tables and 3 new subject tables, only published in the 2009 ACS 1-year data products. Health insurance coverage will also be added to the data profiles and comparison profiles. Additionally, there will be 2 new ranking tables featuring health insurance coverage.

Bachelor's Field of Degree

• Bachelor's field of degree is a new topic in the 2009 ACS 1-year data products.
• There will be 13 new detailed educational attainment tables presenting data from the new question on bachelor's field of degree, only published in the 2009 ACS 1-year data products.

Disability

• There will be 5 new detailed tables, only published in the 2009 ACS1-year data products.
• The disability question was modified in 2008, representing a conceptual and empirical break from earlier years of the ACS. The Census Bureau does not recommend any comparisons to disability data from the 2007 ACS and earlier.

Marital History

• There will be 1 new subject table, only published in the 2009 1-year data products.
• Marital history was a new topic in the 2008 ACS 1-year data and it has been expanded for the 2009 ACS 1-year data.

Other Tables

• There are also new detailed tables for the areas of 'Hispanic or Latino Origin;' 'Foreign Born; US Citizenship Status; Year of Entry; Nativity;' 'Poverty;' 'Industry; Occupation; Class of Worker;' and Housing Characteristics.

Food Stamps

• The term "Food Stamps" was replaced with "Food Stamps/SNAP" in 33 tables to be consistent with the renaming of the Food Stamp program to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Other Tables

• There are also modified detailed and/or subject tables for the areas of Foreign Born; US Citizenship Status; Year of Entry; Nativity; Educational Attainment; Language Spoken at Home and Ability to Speak English; Disability; and Health Insurance Coverage.

Table B15004 "Poverty Status in the Past 12 Months by Sex by Educational Attainment for the Population 25 Years and Over" was removed as it was nearly identical to Table B17003 "Poverty Status in the Past 12 Months of Individuals by Sex by Educational Attainment."
