Recruit Training Company
The goal of the Recruit Sustainment Program (RSP), also referred to as Recruit Training Company (RTC), is to reduce the overall training pipeline loss rate. This is done by creating a strong foundation of training that allows the recruit the ability to achieve success while attending Initial Entry Training (IET) and providing the parent unit a Soldier who is Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) qualified.
The North Dakota Army National Guard Recruit Training Company prepares Army National Guard Warriors for the successful completion of Basic Combat Training (BCT) and subsequent MOS qualification. It indoctrinates them through training focused at the top five reasons that Warriors are lost in the training pipeline, provides full visibility on the preparation process and ensures they ship to BCT mentally prepared, physically ready and administratively correct.
RTC Objectives: The RTC indoctrinates Army National Guard (ARNG) Warriors with the skills required to successfully MOS qualify and return to their units; fit, trained and ready to deploy in support of the ARNG mission by ensuring all Soldiers are:
Mentally prepared Administratively correct Physically fit
Success through Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Knowledge: Become familiar with and understand chain of command, orders, the Army Values, teamwork, discipline, UCMJ, ARNG traditions and heritage, the wear and appearance of army uniforms, weapons and equipment, customs and courtesies, and learn the "YOU CAN" spirit!
Skill: Become proficient in basic rifle marksmanship, first aid and medical, protection during chemical warfare, map reading and orientation, land navigation, camouflage techniques, and communication skills.
Attribute: Lear key characteristics such as, dignity and respect, being physically fit, self-esteem, confidence, teamwork and courage, self-discipline, problem-solving, and motivation.
Success through Physical Training and Weight Control Physical Training (PT) and a routine weigh-in will be an integral part of each drill period to assist the new enlistee in meeting the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) standards and US Army weight control standards. If needed, instruction on the principles of fitness and nutrition will be ongoing and designed to educate RTC soldiers on how they can safely plan and conduct their own physical training programs out of RTC drill weekends.

Success through Five RTC Training Phases To increase the level of familiarity and help all Warriors adapt to the military training module, RTC training has been separated into 5 different phases:
Red Phase This phase takes place during the first drill weekend that you will spend in the Army National Guard. This training focuses on the basics you need to know right away – like Army structure and ranks, Army Values, marching, saluting and forms of address, drill and ceremony, and your physical fitness assessment.

White Phase The next drill weekend begins White Phase. During this phase, you’ll learn more about the Army National Guard and what you’ll need to know to succeed at Basic Combat Training (BCT). Some items covered include: APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test), fiscal readiness, general orders, fireguard and guard duties, land navigation, drill and ceremony, military communication, phonetic alphabet and numbers/military time, and performing first aid.

Blue Phase This phase is your last drill weekend prior to shipping to Basic Combat Training (BCT). All of the final details are taken care of before you leave to ensure a successful transition. Some of the items that will be reviewed are: APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test), inspections, resilience training, final preparations, and a pre-shipper brief and counseling.

Green Phase For those Warriors that choose to split their Initial Active Duty Training (IADT) there is a For those who choose to split their Initial Active Duty Training (IADT), there is a Green Phase. This phase starts when you return from Basic Combat Training (BCT) and ends when you leave again for Advanced Individual Training (AIT). Green Phase focuses on keeping you current on skills by reinforcing the training you already received and receiving additional advanced training. You will focus on items such as, APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test), detainee operations, urban area training, convoy operations, advanced land navigation, and weapons training.

Gold Phase or Battle Hand-off Phase When you return from Advanced Individual Training (AIT) as a Military Occupational Specialty Qualified (MOSQ) Soldier, you will complete their final phase during their last drill with RTC. This phase recognizes the accomplishments of the Warrior and a ceremony is conducted to transition the Soldier to their unit of assignment. You will learn about your unit and where and when your next drill will be.
