The following Combustion Systems reports can be accessed from the NETL Publications/ Other Publications and Reports page:
- Clean Coal Technology Compendium, The Clean Coal Technology program has completed about half of its 40 projects, and has produced a sizeable database, or Compendium, of information (including schedules, reports, bibliography, etc.) available for your access. Currently, the Compendium includes summary information for all Clean Coal Technology projects, with detailed publications and reports provided for three of these projects. Publications and reports produced for the remaining projects will be added soon.
- Topical Report #1 -- March 1990, Tidd: The Nation's First PFBC Combined-Cycle Demonstration. Tidd, an electric generating station in Brilliant, Ohio, was the nation's first pressurized fluidized-bed combustor (PFBC) to operate in a true combined cycle mode.
If you need information about any of these projects, contact Rob Gross at the National Energy Technology Laboratory.
Press Releases
Combustion Systems press releases appearing on the NETL Publications/ Press Release page can be accessed directly by the links provided below:
- August 3, 2000, DOE Takes 2nd Step Toward Ultra-Clean Energy Plant; Selects Seven More Projects to Join Vision 21 Program. The U.S. Department of Energy today added more of the technological 'building blocks' to its Vision 21 program --an effort the agency expects to lead to a nearly pollution-free energy plant by the next decade.
- July 11, 2000, DOE Selects 4 Projects that Increase Efficiency, Lower Energy-Production Costs, Emissions from Coal Plants. Four new research projects selected this week by the U.S. Department of Energy show that innovations to boost the performance of tomorrow's power plants can take many forms --from new ways to mix biomass and municipal waste into future fuels to new microbiological techniques that minimize water intake obstructions.
- November 15, 1999, Kentucky Power Project Added to Clean Coal Program. A 400-megawatt advanced power plant project planned for eastern Kentucky will become part of the Department of Energy's Clean Coal Technology Program. Energy Secretary Bill Richardson has approved the use of $78 million as the federal share of the $432 million project.
- October 1, 1999, Competition Begins to Design Vision 21 Plant of the Future. The U.S. Department of Energy has opened the competition for companies to begin designing a new class of fossil fuel plants that will produce electricity, chemicals, fuels, or perhaps a combination, with virtually no pollutants released to the environment. The program could remove environmental barriers to future fossil fuel use.
- September 24, 1999, WVU to Run Filter Cleaning Tests. West Virginia University will use an experimental system to study hot gas filters being cleaned.
- August 25, 1999, Three Projects to Develop Filter Safeguard Devices for Future Power Plants. DOE has selected three organizations to develop "filter-failure safeguard devices" that can protect future coal-powered energy plants from costly equipment damage should primary filters fail.
- February 4, 1999, McDermott to Test New Alloys for 21st Century Power Plants. DOE is awarding a contract to McDermott Technologies to test a new generation of high-strength, corrosion-resistant alloys under conditions that will mimic future high-efficiency, supercritical power plants.
