Established in 1910, the Eldorado hosts over 2.1 million visitors each year. The Forest offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities to the forest visitor looking to explore, seek out new adventures, or revisit old memories. With over 80 developed campgrounds and picnic areas, hundreds of miles of roads and trails, multiple large lakes and reservoirs, innumerable miles of rivers and streams, great scenery, and an abundance of plant and wildlife, visitors can find a place or activity to suit them.

New Recreation Residence Appraisal Completed

Forest Supervisor Kathy Hardy has accepted the new appraisals for valuing recreation residence typical lots.  This value is used to establish the base fee for each recreation residence permit.  The results of the recently completed appraisals have been sent to each recreation residence permit holder.  Click here for answers to commonly asked questions regarding the appraisal process and how it affects fees.

42 Routes Project

The U.S. District Court has directed the Forest Service to close sections of forty-two routes until a supplemental EIS for route segments that cross meadows is completed.

 




Prescribed Fire Projects:

The Forest Service is working on the prescribed fire program in the Eldorado National Forest when weather conditions are right. Check link for active projects for January 23, 2013.

The Secure Rural Schools Act has been renewed for one year.
