Cyber Security

As America’s infrastructures have become more complex and interconnected, their operation and control has become more complicated. Automated control systems, called SCADAs (supervisory control and data acquisition systems), networked across the internet have been widely deployed to operate these infrastructures. These systems, and the internet over which they handle information, are an identified security  ulnerability for the infrastructures they control. The Infrastructure Security Program Area works with several government agencies in the area of cybersecurity to ensure the integrity and availability of the nation’s cyber infrastructure.

The performance of the nation’s infrastructure is an essential component of the nation’s economic prosperity. Through its programs and projects, the Infrastructure Security Program Area seeks to endow the  infrastructure with five characteristics: security, reliability, safety, sustainability, and cost effectiveness.
